About
Details
Learning to Fly builds on language of tension and grace found in Thunderbird while also incorporating rhythmic elements present in Yebo. The overlapping top elements had been a concept for quite some time prior to the this implementation. The break away forms reincorporate themselves with grace throughout the totem. Whimsically, the single circular cutout is more of a solid part of the form than the top sphere.
Additionally, the entire totem rests upon a one-inch thick acrylic base. The underside of the acrylic is painted in the same metallic blue as the top sphere, allowing the totem to “float”.
